Would you guess, looking at this sweet Holstein bovine face that Bob Crockett the Steer is a svelte 6'1" tall?! He is indeed, and he is a real sweetie too. Bob will be 6 years old next month.
Have you ever met a boy calf saved from the dairy industry in person? Very few are saved, and most of those are in farmed animal sanctuaries. Fundamentally, they don't produce milk and are considered a byproduct in the industry.

In the photos, you see him as a baby with volunteer Tyler Wehr from our first UFS Calendar shoot, and in another photo yesterday with (now) Shelter Manager Tyler sitting nearby. As a baby, Bob had a "Lumpy Jaw" (actinomyces) infection in his jaw, but a very long and persistent course of penicillin cured it, and Bob became one of the lucky boys.

Bob has the quietest gentle moo which is another thing most folks don't expect from a fellow so big. Some Holstein steers in sanctuaries reach weights over 2500 pounds.
He knows he is loved in his forever home.
'Be My Valentine' Bob!
